Street: 5636 Newland Way
Arvada, co 80002-2604 Phone: (303) 422-8562 We called before we went and they take cash, check, Visa/MC, gold/silver. I thought he was joking but it looks like they have a mini-pawn shop section by the register w/jewelry so maybe he's serious? They are open Fri and Sat 9-5. I found them by searching online for grocery salvage stores. Most of their stuff is expired but if you use it the week you buy it I don't think it would matter for some of it. Lots of food pantries buy here. Examples of things we got - big can Nestle formula 5.99 (exp 3 mo. ago but we'll go through it this week), huge food service can of pineapple 1.99 for 6 lb, shredded Parmesan/Romano or Romano $1.99/lb. All their fish was $2.99/lb - this included Tilapia (cheaper than the sales this week), Flounder, beer-battered fillets, and buckets of grilled calamari and veggies. Organic ground beef $1.55 or .85 (can't remember) per pound. Whole chicken fryers .79/lb. Buffalo hot dogs $1.99/lb. Marinated chicken breast (pesto and something else - had a citrus slice in the pkg) $1.99/lb - same for breaded chkn breasts. Microwave popcorn 2 pkg for $1.49. Three big boxes of "snacks" for $20 (min. $25 value for each box) - I peaked inside and it's stuff like granola bars, pkg of chips. Inventory and specials change every week and I think that most of the deals I can better at sales (their cereal was around $1.50 a box) but I love the cheese and meat we found! We also got cans of Hershey's cocoa for .99 each - from shopping baskets they'd gotten from an estate sale. Some of the cans were expired in the 90s! Not sure I'm that brave. Anyway - if anyone heads up on a Friday I'd love a rundown of the deals so I can head up if it's worth the drive for me. |

I'm curious if anyone has done some price comparison here. Some things are fairly good deals - 1lb of shredded parm/romano chz for $1.99, and Pepperidge Farms bagels 6 for $1.25. But on dry goods the prices are not really that great, and many times more expensive than we would get combining coupons and sales at stores we regularly go to.
Case in point - if I recall they are charging $2 for salad dressing ($1 if it's the last bottle of its kind left.) But often we can get Kraft dressing at King Soopers for 50 cents if we wait for the right sale and use a doubled coupon. Also - they had Starbucks coffee in bags at the Friday Store for $5.99, which granted is better than the $8ish you'd pay at the regular grocery, but at my mom's favorite "salvage store" (which is what this is) in Louisville, KY, bags of Starbucks were sold for $2.99. Would love to hear other people's thoughts! |
