What to Do when You’re Feeling Overwhelmed
If you’re juggling with two jobs, college and a family life you will definitely feel overwhelmed at one point in your life. But even with one job and no family life you can still feel the pressure of tight deadlines, unfinished tasks and whatnot.
What do you need to do to stop feeling overwhelmed? Should you give up some things, make compromises or be more organized? Is there a certain recipe for success? It all depends on you and how much you can handle. Every person is different and depending on your personality, you can think of successful plans to stop feeling overwhelmed.
How you React to Deadlines
There are some types of personalities that handle deadlines different than the rest. For example, some persons work best during the long run. These are the planners; the ones that plan and finish everything before the deadline is due. On the other hand, there are people who can’t be productive if they plan everything step by step. They usually hand in a project on the due date. They work best when they feel the pressure of an upcoming deadline. Based on these types of personalities, you can assess which type of approach works best for you. So if you know how you react to deadlines, you can take the necessary steps as to prevent other situations from happening and to stop feeling overwhelmed all the time.
Handle the Most Urgent Things First
If you’re planning to multitask…you better stop right there. You may be capable of doing all that, but it will lead to exhaustion, stress and crankiness. And nobody deserves to experience such a feeling. Handle the most urgent things first then move on to the next tasks on your list. Take it step by step, take short breaks, enjoy life and stop worrying so much. You will end up saying goodbye to that overwhelming feeling and inviting that feeling of satisfaction in; when you have ticked all things that were on your To Do List.
Set Boundaries
When you’re already busy with work, family activities and different projects, there will still be others who will require your help or assistance. Learn to say no and set some realistic boundaries. You don’t owe anybody anything so you don’t have to feel guilty about declining someone’s request for your assistance. You need to take care of the things you have already promised you’d solve so there’s no time for other extra things to do.
Have You Considered Doing Something Unconventional?
The most unusual things seem to work in so many different contexts. For example, if you’re feeling overwhelmed you can take deep breaths, short breaks, daydream, go for a short walk in the park, take a power nap or even workout. You can’t imagine how these things will reorganize your mind and you will end up feeling much more relaxed and able to find the right solutions to the problems that you are dealing with.
