Most Common Regrets

Whether we like it or not, no matter how many times we say what’s on our mind and do what our heart or mind tells us to do, we still end up having regrets. It’s part of the beauty and tragedy of life. But knowing the most common regrets that people have can act as a wakeup call for many of us to start living life at the fullest.

A lot of people pass their wisdom to the younger generations. Old people are wise due to the things they’ve seen and experienced. The mistakes they’ve made and the things that they regretted doing or sometimes the lack of action made them regret something.

You can be young and experience things that make you more mature than your age. You can be of help to others and you can change things for the better. The most common regrets that people have can give us a different perspective on life; the kind of perspective that motivates us to do what we want before it’s too late.

Placing Work First

A lot of people regret being workaholics. They skipped important moments with their loved ones for work. Some missed their children’s first words or steps while others regret not spending enough time with their parents. Some regrets not having a family or being married because they were more focused on their career and now nothing can cure the loneliness they feel. Others regret the fact that they didn’t stay in touch with some childhood friends.

Not Speaking Up

One of the most common regrets is not speaking your mind, not facing your fears, your bosses, your teachers or your bullies. A voice that isn’t heard is filled with regrets and many scenarios that start with” what if…” Let go of your inhibitions. Learn how to speak your mind without insulting others.

The Heartaches

Love will always be one of the major things that have to do with regret. Breaking up with someone and then realizing he or she was the love of your life, the death of your loved one or the loved one that dumps you…all of these things contribute to some of the most common regrets that people have.

Society’s Standards

People pay too much attention to what other people think. One should care more about his or her dreams, aspirations, desires. Only you know what’s best for you and what you want to achieve in life. Stop paying attention to TV shows, glossy magazines, rude colleagues or acquaintances that criticize your every move, decisions and even your looks. Nobody is entitled to tell you how to live your life. Stop pleasing others and you’ll find true happiness.

Happiness versus Seriousness

While it is more than recommended to act and think like a responsible adult there’s a fine line between being mature and being a control freak. Learn to loosen up, relax, have fun, laugh more and not take things so seriously all the time. Moderation is essential when it comes to leading a happy life with little to no regrets.
