How to Save $100 This Month

Are you trying to start your savings journey? It’s easy to think that you have to have thousands and thousands of dollars in savings, but it’s good to start smaller. Don’t get me wrong, there are many, many reasons to want to have thousands of dollars saved up, but if you have nothing in savings right now, that can be very overwhelming.

Today we are going to start with tips on how you can get started and save just $100 this month. I know it doesn’t seem like a lot, but once you start, you can go up from there!

How to Save $100 This Month

There are many ways to save $100 in a month, and here are some practical tips that can help you achieve your goal:

Create a Budget

The first step to saving money is to create a budget. This will help you track your expenses and identify areas where you can cut back. If you have never created a budget before, there are many apps and tools online that you can find to help.

Cut Back

I know you don’t think you can cut back on expenses, but I can almost guarantee that you can. Look at your expenses and identify areas where you can cut back. This might include eating out less, canceling subscription services you don’t use, or finding cheaper alternatives for the products you buy.

Shop Smart

Look for coupons and discount codes online before making a purchase. This can help you save money on everything from groceries to clothing.

Buy in Bulk

Buying in bulk can save you money over time, especially for items that you use frequently.

Reduce Energy Consumption

Take steps to reduce your energy consumption, such as turning off lights and electronics when not in use, and lowering your thermostat. You’ll be surprised by how much money you can save with just these simple steps.

Use Public Transportation

If possible, you might consider using public transportation instead of driving your own car. This can save you money on gas and maintenance.

Sell Your Stuff

Consider selling unwanted items online to make some extra money. I made about $80 selling stuff on Poshmark last month alone.

By implementing these tips, you can save $100 or more in a month. Remember that every little bit counts and even small changes can make a big difference over time.

Motivation Tips for Saving Money

Are you struggling to save money lately? Times are getting tough out there and saving money is very important, because, let’s face it. We don’t know what is coming, so it’s good to have a financial cushion of some kind. Are you wondering how to go about and do it?

Saving money can be a challenging task, but it’s a crucial part of achieving financial stability and security. Here are some motivation tips that can help you stay on track with your saving goals:

Motivation Tips for Saving Money

These are just some simple motivation tips for saving money that I have found have helped me and my family.

Set Goals

Setting specific, measurable goals can help you stay motivated to save money. For example, you may want to save a certain amount of money for an emergency fund, a down payment on a home, or a vacation.

Track Your Savings Progress

Keeping track of your progress can help you stay motivated. You can use a spreadsheet, a budgeting app, or a savings tracker to monitor your savings and see how close you are to achieving your goals.

Reward Yourself

When you reach a savings milestone, reward yourself with something small that you enjoy. This can help you stay motivated and feel good about your progress.

Make it a Habit

Saving money should become a habit. Try to save a percentage of your income each month and make it a part of your routine.

Learn to Avoid Temptations

Avoid temptations that can derail your savings goals, such as impulsive purchases, expensive outings, or credit card debt.

Visualize Your Future

Visualize the future you want to achieve by saving money. This can help you stay motivated and focused on your goals. This particular tip has been such a huge help to me in my savings goals! I have very specific dream vacation goals and retirement goals and I think about them every single day in order to keep my savings goals moving.

Find a Support Person or Savings Buddy

Find a support system that can help you stay motivated and accountable. This can be a friend, family member, or financial advisor. Have you ever had an accountability partner for reaching your fitness goals? It’s kind of the same thing here.

Remember, saving money takes time and effort, but the rewards of financial security and stability are worth it.

My Favorite Ways to Save Money on Vacations

I love saving money. Like seriously, love it! As I get older, I have discovered that my absolute favorite thing to save money on is vacations. I absolutely love being able to take my family on an amazing adventure for just a little bit of money!

Taking vacations can sometimes be stressful, especially if you don’t have a lot of money. When you are short on cash, every activity you do while on vacation has an added layer of stress to it. When you can vacation on a budget, this stress is eased tremendously. If you are ready to learn how to take a trip on a budget, check out my favorite ways to save money on vacations.

My Favorite Ways to Save Money on Vacations

Camping

Some of our best family vacations have been while we were camping! We have been able to visit locations that we normally wouldn’t have chosen due to the cost of lodging. For example, we have camped near Lake Tahoe for next to nothing as opposed to renting a hotel room there for several hundred dollars per night.

We happened to have a Thousand Trails membership because we camp a lot. It is so much fun and makes it very cheap!

Google Explore

I’m embarrassed to say how often I find myself searching for flights on Google Explore. As long as you are flexible about your dates, you will be absolutely shocked by how cheap you can find various flights (even international flights)!

Get a National Parks Pass

We are outdoorsy kind of people and most of our vacations are spent exploring the outdoors. Even in the times that we rent a house or a hotel, it’s typically because there is a great outdoor destination nearby. For example, we stayed at a hotel in St. George Utah several years ago in order to visit Zion National Park. By purchasing the National Parks Pass you pay one small fee and you can visit all of the national parks in the USA all year long!

The costs are as follows:

Regular pass: $80

Senior pass: $20 (or $80 for a lifetime pass)

4th Grade Pass: FREE (If you have a 4th grader this year, sign up now because you get a free one!)

Vacation with Friends or Family

We are going on a trip this summer with my husband’s family. We found a rental house that will sleep all of us with fun extras like bikes, a hot tub, and a gaming room. We get to stay there for 5 nights and it is costing each family only $400. We couldn’t stay at a crummy motel for $400 for 5 nights. Plus, since we are renting a house we will be cooking our own meals thus saving us even more money.

4 Tips That Will Help You Get More Exercise

Do you need to exercise more? No shade, most of us need to be exercising more. I used to work out all the time. I loved it so much, I never wanted a day off. Then about 6 years ago, I had my third and final baby and I just got tired. Like seriously so tired. I didn’t work out for what seemed like years. In the last few years though, that changed significantly. I now work out 5-6 days per week and I am feeling so much better!

If you are looking for tips that will help you get more exercise, look no further than this post! I’m going to chat about some of my favorite ways to work more exercise into my day.

4 Tips That Will Help You Get More Exercise

Hit the Trail

Hiking is my favorite type of exercise. I think it’s because many times it doesn’t feel like exercise at all. Once I hit my first trail, I started to learn all I could about hiking (check out these fun facts about hiking) and places near me to go. Many times it will be a flat easy walking trail and sometimes you can even find paved ones! Hiking feels more like exploring than exercising.

Play with Your Kids

Exercise doesn’t have to mean hitting the gym. Sometimes it can be as simple as playing catch with the kids or heading out for a visit to the park.

Go Outside

Being outside gives you a lot of opportunity for exercise. It also gives you more reasons to move your body! Even something as simple as picking flowers or something more substantial such as gardening. All of these things are a form of exercising!

Play Video Games

My kids have the Occulus Quest video game and oh my gosh, many of those games are workouts in themselves! Plus, they are lots of fun! I know that some Nintendo switch games are good for workouts as are some old school Nintendo Wii games. If you have any of these games systems on hand, take advantage of this opportunity!

Fun, Yummy Cookie Recipes

Who else is craving cookies? ME!!!! I am not a huge fan of baking, but sometimes I really do get into a cookie baking mode. My kids love it when it get into that mode, because we end up with a lot of cookies during those times.

I think I’m going to have a good cookie baking session this week for two reasons. First, Easter is this weekend and everyone loves cookies and treats for the holidays, right? Second, it’s going to warm up soon and I never love having cookie baking sessions when the weather is hot out! Who needs to heat up their house, am I right?

Fun, Yummy Cookie Recipes

These fun, yummy cookie recipes all look like they’ll be a hit with my family this weekend!

Triple Chocolate Marshmallow S’Mores Cookies

Love chocolate? You are going to flip over these triple chocolate marshmallow s’more’s cookies! I am always a sucker for chocolate, so you can bet I’ll be making these!

Oatmeal Bliss Balls

Okay, so these oatmeal bliss balls aren’t technically cookies, but my boys always call energy balls cookies, so I include them in my cookie lists!

Banana Oatmeal Cookies

I love these banana oatmeal cookies for several reasons. One, they are delicious. Two, they work well for breakfast or a snack. Three, they take just 4 ingredients! And four, as far as cookies go, these ones are really pretty healthy! I can make these and not stress too much about my kids getting a sugar rush when they eat them.

What are your favorite cookies to bake? I am always looking for more recipe ideas, so please feel free to share with us! My kids will thank you for it.

Unique Easter Egg Hunt Ideas- Your Kids Will Love

easter egg hunt f2dEaster is coming soon. Are you ready? I have to admit, when I was little I was never super fond of Easter Eggs hunts. It seemed like I was always the one at the end who couldn’t find those last few eggs. It was only months down the road that those eggs would show up! So that’s where they were! However, being a mom of little kids, I have to give in and do egg hunts every year. Most years it seems like we end up doing one with each side of the family so MORE egg hunts for us! I will admit it is pretty fun to see the kids eyes light up with excitement as they find those eggs. So, if they are happy, I’m happy.  Here are 10 unique Easter Egg hunt ideas that just may have you (and me!) a little more excited for egg hunts this year.

  1. Scavenger Egg Hunt: Write a clue in the first egg that will direct them to the next egg. Continue with this for however long you want until they get to the last clue with the prize/presents at the end. You could even make a scavenger hunt for each kid if they are old enough to do them on their own.
  2. Color Code Eggs: This is a tradition in my family. Every Easter morning we are given a color that is our color for the egg hunt. That means we can only find those eggs that have stickers with our color on it. If we see an egg with a different color sticker on it, then we leave it and don’t tell anyone. We have a number of how many eggs/prizes we get to find. This helps with those little kids that may need some “easy” hiding places. Put those out in the open and hide the older kids a little harder. This way you can also get the same amount of eggs/prizes for every kid. No fighting!
  3. Gold Easter Egg: Tell the kids that during their hunt they each get to find one Gold Easter Egg. Inside put something special and personal. Like “Date night with mom & dad” or “Late Night with Friends” or “Let’s go to the Movies!” Something that would help you spend more time with them. This gives a little more excitement to the hunt as well.
  4. Tag Team Easter Egg Hunt: If you are having an egg hunt with a big family, this is super fun! Split the group into even teams. Then you say “Go!” the first person from each team runs and finds an egg and brings it back. They tag the next person on the team and then they go find an egg. The first team to get through their whole team either once or twice (depending on how many eggs you have) wins.
  5. The REAL Egg Hunt: Does anyone ever use REAL eggs anymore? I feel like they are mostly plastic now days. But with this hunt you need to make and dye Easter Eggs. Which is half the fun, right?? Once they are dyed and decorated then hide them in designated location. Have each person try to find a certain number of eggs and none of them can be ones that they made. This is super fun at the end to see the designs of other people.
  6. In the Dark Egg Hunt: This is super fun for those older kids that may think they are done with eggs hunts. Put small pieces of glow sticks in Easter eggs and hide them around the yard when it’s dark outside. You can then let them outside and see who can get the most or just let them go for it. It makes it pretty cool looking too.
  7. Let’s Move! Egg Hunt: In each egg have an action or exercise that they need to accomplish before going on to the next egg. It’s funny to watch them go find the eggs. You’ll suddenly see them start doing jumping jacks, somersaults, cartwheels, jumping and running. If you need to get energy out, this is a great way to do it!
  8. Puzzle Egg Hunt: Buy a puzzle that is appropriate for your age group. When you buy it you need to put it together first and then write your secret message on the back. It could be a rhyme or poem describing where they can find their end treasure. Then put 1 piece of the puzzle in each egg. The kids have to work together to find all of the eggs and then put the puzzle together. They then need to solve the question on the back of the puzzle and go find their prize. So fun!

You can fill the eggs up with candy or small toys from your local store, Amazon or Walmart or Target.

How to Save Money on Spring Break Staycations

  1. Look on your city and neighboring cities website for events going on. Most likely there will be a few FREE events that you can go to.
  2. Go to your local library and see what activities they have going on. Our local library even has a calendar set out so we can play our spring break week with activities they have going on.
  3. Check websites and social media for deals on food at local restaurants. Mostly likely they know that it’s spring break and they will be offering deals for those that are still around.
  4. Make a budget for the week so you know what you can splurge on and what you want to pass on. This helps when deciding what to do for the week.
  5. Check your local movie theatres for their discounted days and go then!
  6. Bring your own food from home when you go out for the day. Save that money on fast food to go to a fun restaurant for the week (using a deal of course!).

Porch Decor on a Budget

Spring has sprung, my friends! Are you ready to brighten up your living spaces and your yard? I now I am!! One space I am really looking forward to doing some spring cleaning and decorating is my porch! Your porch is the space that says hello to your visitors, so don’t you want it to look it’s best?!

If you are looking for porch decor on a budget, check out these fun ways to spruce up your space without breaking the bank. There are some really good ideas listed here!

Porch Decor on a Budget

There are many ways to decorate your porch on a budget. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Add Plants

Plants are a great way to add color and life to your porch. You can find affordable plants at your local garden center or even at the grocery store. Consider using hanging baskets, potted plants, or even repurposing old containers as planters.

Use outdoor pillows

Outdoor pillows can add a pop of color and comfort to your porch furniture. Look for sales or clearance deals to save money.

Hang string lights

String lights can add a cozy and inviting atmosphere to your porch. You can find affordable options at discount stores or online.

Create a DIY doormat

Personalize your porch with a DIY doormat. You can use stencils and paint to create a design that fits your style.

Use thrifted decor

Thrift stores and garage sales can be great places to find unique and affordable decor for your porch. Look for items like vintage lanterns, baskets, or even old chairs that can be repurposed.

Add a rug

A rug can add color and texture to your porch. Look for outdoor rugs on sale or clearance, or consider repurposing an old rug you already have.

Paint your front door

A fresh coat of paint on your front door can make a big difference in your porch’s appearance. Look for paint on sale or use leftover paint from previous projects.

Budget Friendly DIY Window Insulation Tips

Do you have some drafty windows that are keeping your power bill higher than you would like it? Or just keeping your house colder than you’d like it? This isn’t just an issue for winter time either. Drafty windows can affect your summer cooling too

Whether you are a homeowner that simply cannot afford major energy saving upgrades to your home, or you are a renter and don’t have the authority to make bigger changes, these budget friendly DIY window insulation tips can help you!

Budget Friendly DIY Window Insulation Tips

Use DIY Window Film

A DIY Window Film like this is easy to install and will help you regulate the temperature in your home! Plus, it adds a level of privacy to windows too!

Before you start the process though, be sure to clean and dry your window thoroughly as it simply will not work as well otherwise. You don’t want to have to reinstall it soon!

Bubble Wrap for the Win

Okay, this one isn’t going to look the best and let’s be honest, you will not be able to look outside at all, however, it will significantly change the draftiness that you are dealing with in your home. Bubble wrap is an amazing insulator.

Side note: Bubble wrap is great for wrapping pipes too!

Insulating Drapes

Insulating drapes are a great option for keeping your home temperature more consistent. I use these during the winter, but also during the summer. The west facing windows in my home bring in a significant amount of heat into the house during those summer months so I always do what I can to help keep cooling costs down. I have found that using these with window film really does the trick for keeping the temperature down.

I have found great deals at Walmart, Amazon and even at thrift shops on insulating drapes.

Super Easy and Yummy Strawberry Poke Cake Recipe- Perfect for Easter

YUM! I’m seeing the strawberries on sale, which means it’s time to make this yummy  Strawberries and Cream Poke Cake Recipe. It’s the perfect Easter dessert that the whole family will enjoy.

Strawberries and Cream Poke Cake Recipe
Picture and recipe by Six Sisters Stuff

Ingredients

  • 1 box white cake mix 15.25 ounces
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 3 ounce box strawberry flavored Jell-o
  • 1/2 cup cold water

Frosting

  • 1 8 ounce tub Cool-Whip non-dairy whipped topping
  • 1 8 ounce package cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Topping

  • 1 pound strawberries diced

Instructions

  • Make cake as directed on the back of the box for a 9×13″ pan.
  • Let the cake cool for 20 minutes and “poke” the cake with a large fork (I space my pokes about 1/2″ apart and do it until the entire surface of the cake is covered).
  • Mix together the boiling water and Jell-o until the Jell-o is completely dissolved. Pour in the cold water and mix well then pour over the cake.
  • Cover the cake with plastic wrap and refrigerate for three hours.
  • Combine the Cool-Whip, cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla and beat until smooth (I have found that it’s easiest to use an electric mixer, but you don’t have to). Spread on top of cake.
  • Top with strawberries and keep in the fridge until ready to serve.

Non-Candy Easter Basket Filler Ideas

Over the past years, I’ve come to the conclusion my kids don’t need more candy. Every holiday includes some sort of treat and it’s just too much! For Easter I try and do some fun outdoor toys, books, and new spring clothing. If you need more ideas of non-candy Easter basket fillers, here they are. I love buying my items at Target, Walmart or Amazon. If you want to shop and snag a cute spring outfit then check out your local Burlington, I love their clothing sets.
