The Road Trip Safety Guidelines That Everyone Needs to Know

Sure, road trips are all about fun and new and exciting experiences. To enjoy all of this, though, you have to first consider the safety aspects of such a journey. The more cautious or careful that you are on a road trip, the better your chances of steering clear of trouble.

If this isn’t something that you haven’t really considered before, there is no need to worry! This is because you can find all the top safety guidelines for such a journey right here:

Check Out Your Vehicle Beforehand

Before you set out, you may want to give your car an onceover to see if there is anything that needs to be filled up or fixed. For instance, have all fluids been changed or topped up? Have your tires recently been checked for wear and tear? Is your engine running smoothly?

If you aren’t much of a car expert, it is worth it for you to head over to your local mechanic and have them take a look. This will give you the opportunity to fix an issue now before it becomes a problem on the road. This can save you a great deal of time, money, and hassle.

Know Your Resources

A lot of people like to drive without too much of a plan. If this is something that you would like to do as well, that’s fine. However, it is important to do this in a smart way. For instance, whenever you are driving through a particular area, checkup what gas stations, mechanics, restaurants, and motels are available.

This way, should something happen, you will know exactly where to head to for help rather than walking around lost, in circles. Such a move is especially important if you are headed to a remote area where assistance will not be as readily available.

Beware Of Driving While Intoxicated

Now, you would imagine that avoiding such an issue would be easy enough. The issue, though, is that most people aren’t really aware of drinking and driving effects or rules. This is largely to do with the fact that these laws can vary from one area to another. Therefore, you may be unknowingly committing a crime.

Your best bet is to completely avoid alcohol if you are planning on being at the wheel. To be fully prepared, however, you may want to reach out to a lawyer. There are plenty of good DUI lawyers at your service who are willing to help. They will be able to explain the rules and punishments in greater detail.

Always Get Some Rest

It is easy to overestimate how long you can drive for without getting tired. In fact, in most cases you don’t even realize how exhausted you are until you are just about ready to doze off. As you can imagine, you should never let it get to this.

Instead, make sure that no one spends more than a few hours at the wheel at a time. Also, it is a good idea to stop for the night rather driving through. Taking this precaution can prevent quite a number of accidents.

So, these are the rules that you should follow at all costs. This will ensure that you have a wonderful and safe road trip.

On the Hunt for a Dentist? 6 Things to Keep in Mind

Looking for a dentist is a piece of cake if you keep a couple of things in mind. The points would also help you save money. We talked about them below, so read ahead.

What Do You Need Done?

You may need braces – this would require a visit to the orthodontist. What differentiates an orthodontist from a regular dentist? The former works with aligning jaws that are not in the right position.

Some doctors are more specialized in specific procedures. These include installing dental crowns, veneers or dentures.

Is It for A Kid?

Speaking of looking for specialized dentists, there are some that specialize in treating kids. Dentistry for kids requires more patience. This is why they would be more suited if your little one is mischievous.

Children are generally more afraid of going to the doctor. That’s why working with a dentist that was trained to handle such situations would result in a calmer experience.

How Much Are You Willing to Spend?

You don’t need us to tell you that the doctors can be expensive. This is true no matter the type you’re seeing. Know that ones that do cosmetic procedures charge the most.

Hopefully, you live in an area where there are many dental clinics, as you’d be able to find someone that does quality work for an amount closer to your budget.

Are You Two Compatible?

Dental procedures are long. One visit would take hours, and you’d likely have to visit the clinic a couple of times. This wouldn’t be great if you’re not comfortable with your dentist. Is he rude? Does he communicate well? Are his assistants friendly?

You can thankfully check all of these things online. Visit the clinic’s site. You’ll see what others have said about it. Hopefully, there isn’t anything negative.

You can also know how well the two of you would get along at the consultation.

How Qualified Is He?

On his website, you’ll be able to see all of the qualifications he has. You should work with someone that has also won awards.

If his work is good, he’d have customer testimonies. Don’t be afraid to look for them.

Hygiene is Important

Even if he does quality work, you shouldn’t work with him if he’s not the most hygienic. Remember that his hands are in people’s mouths the whole day. You unfortunately might not be able to find information on how clean he is from reviews. You’d be able to figure it out when at the consultation.

Not only should he be hygienic, but his assistants should be as well.

Considering the points discussed, there are enough things to keep in mind when looking for a dentist. The most important would be making sure he’s an expert in what you want done. If you’re taking a child to get their teeth tended to, you’re better off seeing someone who specializes in treating kids.

Of course, make sure he doesn’t charge too much. Cosmetic dental procedures tend to be the most expensive.

4 Fun & Easy St. Patty’s Day Activities Your Kids Will Love

Are you ready for St. Patrick’s Day next week? My kids absolutely love that day. I’m not one to go over board on this holiday, but we do try it make it somewhat fun. I’ve found a few fun and easy St. Patty’s day activities that your kids will really enjoy.

  1. Fun St. Patty’s Day breakfast. We love making some pancakes and putting a little bit of green food coloring in the pancakes. Then put a little bit of whip cream on top and add some fun berries on top.  If you want to make breakfast super easy then just grab some Lucky Charms! We actually have a box of those at the end of the treasure hunt, which is the next activity.
  2. Treasure Hunt. Set out a treasure hunt for the kids. You can have little gold coins making a path to an end treasure, or you can set up clues to get to the last treasure. Our kids love any type of treasure hunt. We usually have the Lucky Charms at the end for a fun treat.
  3. Dance Party. Put on some Irish music and dance the night away. There are some fun Irish songs that the kids would love.
  4. Shamrock Shake. End the night with a fun treat for the family. You can make a Shamrock Shake. It’s super easy to make and the family will love it.

A Family Friendly Road Trip to Las Vegas!

Things are different that’s true but I hope you’re finding ways to still create lasting memories with those you love. One thing we decided to do was take a quick trip down to Las Vegas. For us that’s a good 6 hour drive which isn’t too bad, definitely worth it. And there is plenty to do along the way! Here’s what we pulled over for to enjoy along the way!

Valley of Fire State Park (Overton, Nevada) – this is perfect for anyone who loves the outdoors and exploring. They have some beautiful red rock formations to see and take pictures of. You will also find some hiking trails. Two of the easier ones are called Rainbow Vista or White Domes Hike which are both less than 1 mile round trip and give you some beautiful scenery. We ended up doing the Fire Wave Trail which was breathtaking. It wasn’t to difficult of a hike and we saw people of all ages along the trial (which is a great trail for social distancing). This was by far our favorite stop and a place we want to go back to and explore more. (Note: it cost $10 to enter the park and takes about 30 minutes off the freeway to get to but I promise, it’s worth it. The Fire Wave Trail is not recommended to hike during the high heat. You will want to stop and use the restrooms as well because there are no restrooms at the trail head. Don’t forget to pack lots of water.)

Parowan Gap Petroglyphs (Cedar City, Utah) – it’s a hidden gem and one if you’re traveling through is worth stopping at if you love history. The kids can enjoy creating their own “stories” using graphics like the ones they see when you get back on the road. It’s a short stop that will be perfect for stretching your legs and getting out of the car.  (Note: this stop is about 20 minutes off the freeway and you can estimate about 30 minutes to look around and explore.)

The Creamery (Beaver, Utah) – At The Creamery, dairy is at the core of everything they do. You’ll find their cute store is filled with different cheese options (we went with the smoked, really yummy) as well as other great accompaniments (think jelly, fudge, syrup and more). Then you can step over to the Creamery Kitchen and enjoy a hot meal with items featuring their locally made cheeses. Don’t forget to snag your ice cream before you get back on the road. Their creamery parlor as all your favorite ice cream mixes and then some. With 24 flavors everyone can find something you’ll love.

Flying J Petting Zoo (Scipio, Utah) – I was so excited when we found this little petting zoo on the side of the road. It’s really in the middle of no where but the perfect place to pull over and stretch your legs for a minute. Unfortunately is was closed when we went through but I saw on their Facebook they should be opening up soon, this month in fact. So if you happen to be taking a spring break down to St. George or Las Vegas this would be so fun to stop at with the kids. We luckily could see some of the animals (not all of them have been moved yet due to the weather) including a camel.  I can’t wait to see what other animals they have the next time we’re in the area.

Fun Low Budget Easter Crafts

I love crafting with my kiddos for the various holidays throughout the year and Easter is no exception. I really love how bright and spring like the Easter colors are. It reminds me that spring is here and soon we will start seeing lots of flowers and colors outside.

Fun Low Budget Easter Crafts

Homemade Easter Dollar Tree Tray

Head on over to Dollar Tree and grab all you need for this pretty Easter Dollar Tree Tray craft. The entire project takes less than $10 and less than 20 minutes. This will be a good one to do while your kiddos are busy working on more kid-friendly projects.

Bunny DIY Candy Dishes

Have fun creating these fun, upcycled DIY candy dishes! I love a good project that repurposes stuff that we have lying around the house, don’t you? The kids are going to love making these.

Egg Carton Treasure Chest

I absolutely love making things out of egg cartons. Maybe that’s why I have like 20 egg cartons tucked away in my cabinets right now. I hate tossing them out. I always either save them to give to my neighbors who have laying hens or I use them in an arts and crafts project with the kids. I will definitely be doing this Egg Carton Treasure Chest project with them this week.

Each of these projects can be made using very little out of pocket dollars and all are relatively quick to make. If you are anything like me, I’m sure you can appreciate the value of a short project. My kids love crafts, but with a 4 year old, we don’t often make it too long into a project before he is ready to move on to the next thing.

Delicious Homemade Bread To Enjoy at Breakfast or Dessert

Do you like to bake? Check out these delicious recipes for homemade bread to enjoy at breakfast or dessert! Hungry yet?

I love good homemade bread! There were summers when I basically lived off of banana and zucchini bread. I love the sweetness of it and how filling it is. Plus, knowing that you make it yourself brings not only a sense of pride, but one of comfort since you know exactly what you are eating.

Delicious Homemade Bread To Enjoy at Breakfast or Dessert

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Okay, I make no secret of how much I love chocolate, but you put chocolate and banana together and oh my gosh, I can’t get enough! This is one delicious treat! Oh, and chocolate or not, I would totally let my kids enjoy this bread for breakfast.

Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Bread

Raise your hand if you loved having cinnamon toast for breakfast as a kid! I know I did! As an adult though, I prefer the lack of sugary mess on my counter so I prefer to give my kids a slice of warm cinnamon swirl bread for their treat or breakfast. They love it.

Vegan Banana Bread

If you are looking for a vegan friendly option for breakfast/dessert type breads, here is an oh so delicious vegan banana bread recipe for you! We aren’t vegan in my household, but we still love this recipe. It’s delicious!

Orange Creamsicle Cake

Okay, this one may be a little more on the dessert side of homemade breads, but c’mon! It’s an ORANGE CREAMSICLE CAKE!!!! Need I say more? Just the name of it brings me back to childhood summers and I now I have to go make some of this cake!

2-Ingredient Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Bread Recipe

Okay, this one is firmly in the dessert category, but WOW! Have you ever imagined a bread being made out of ICE CREAM?! I don’t even want to know the fat/calorie count on this one, but I definitely want to taste it.

Fun Rafts, Kayaks and Paddleboards for Endless Summer Fun

Do you like to hang out at the lake, pond or pool in the summer? I do! I live in an area that is very rainy and dreary throughout the fall, winter and most of spring. By the time that summer rolls around, I am really wanting to experience all of the sunshine and warmth that I can. Seriously, I cannot get enough of it.

A couple of years ago, we ordered a couple of inflatable kayaks from Amazon and we have literally had hours upon hours of summer fun with them. I would venture to say that it is pretty close to the best $150ish dollars we have ever spent on activities. It’s been amazing and to my surprise, it has been great for growing our relationships with our kids. We all love the time spent together.

Fun Rafts, Kayaks and Paddleboards for Endless Summer Fun

A few years after we bought the kayaks, I happened to spot an amazing deal on Facebook Marketplace on a paddleboard and jumped at the chance to give this new hobby a chance and oh my gosh it has been an absolute blast (We have since bought our second one to be honest).

If you are looking for a way for your family to have fun together this summer while staying cool, check out these fun rafts, kayaks and paddleboards that you can get at Amazon.

Intex Explorer K2 Kayak – This was the kayak that got it started for us. We are actually on year 4 of owning them and still not a single issue has come from them. No leaks at all! Keep your eye on the price on this one. It’s over $100 (at the time of this post), but we bought it for $70 and I know the price often drops as we get close to summer.

Intex Challenger Kayak Inflatable Set with Aluminum Oars – I have no personal experience with this one, but it has great reviews and is the same company as the ones that we own. If you are looking for a kayak that you can use solo, this looks like a great one.

Intex Explorer Inflatable Boat – This little raft is incredibly budget friendly and is meant for only pools or a still pond. Do not take this one onto any moving water, but it can still be lots of fun!

Intex Seahawk Inflatable Boat Series – This one is a little sturdier and great for going fishing or hanging out on the lake. Check out the reviews here, you might be surprised to see how great they are!

Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board – If you have never been on a paddleboard before, prepare for it to be a whole new experience. Trust me though, it is so much fun! I have two teens and both of them absolutely love paddleboarding. It’s a bit hit with the younger crowd.

Oh, and whether you and the others in your family are good swimmers or not, wear a life jacket. There is simply no reason to put yourselves at risk out there, when there are countless life jackets available to us (some of which are pretty cool looking too). Just have fun and stay safe.

Our 3 Favorite (And Incredibly Easy) Treats to Make on St. Patrick’s Day!

I love making the day fun when a holiday comes by and St. Patrick’s is no different. So I wanted to share our 3 favorites things we like to make on St. Patrick’s Day as a special treat!

First is the traditional Rice Krispies but with a twist. Instead of your usually Rice Krispy cereal, we swap them out with lucky charms. They are the perfect match to adding that St Patrick’s vibe to our treat. Plus you can’t get any easier than making Rice Krispies, they whip together in less than 10 minutes. All you need is butter, mini marshmallows and your cereal. That’s it! If you’ve never made homemade Rice Krispies Treats before it’s simple. Melt 4 tablespoons of butter over the stove top. Once melted add in 5 cups of mini marshmallows and stir continually until melts. Then dump in 6 cups of your cereal and fold until it’s all be mixed together. We then use a 9×13 (greased) and press them inside. That’s it! Simple and the kids will love helping!

One of the other things we do every year is make green pancakes! It just makes dinner (yes breakfast for dinner is the BEST!) a step up in the kids eyes. Luckily it’s super simple and they love it. We’ll even add in some chocolate chips as a surprise. If you’re really adventurous, you could make up some rainbow pancakes with all the colors of the rainbow. We’ve done this in the past and just use condiment containers (found at the dollar store) to squeeze out the color of batter we were on next. It make for a less messy approach.

And lately every year we’ll whip up some delicious St Patrick’s Day Sherbet Floats! This is just your basic Lemon-Lime Soda, Lime Sherbet, Whipped Cream with sprinkles on top! As you can see from this list I like to keep things simple but honestly it doesn’t change how much the kids love it! I bet you could just pick one to surprise the kids with and they’d be over the moon!

Easter Books to Include in Your Kids’ Basket This Year

Easter is just a few short weeks away. Have you started planning baskets yet? I’m the kind of mom that likes to include all kinds of stuff in my kids’ baskets. I’m not a fan of having all candy or all toys, like I said, I like to add in a little bit of everything.

One thing that I began adding since my oldest child was about 3 is a book. I always like to encourage their love of reading and a new fun book is a way to do that. I do like to stick to an Easter theme though, well, just because. If you want to add books into your Easter tradition, here are some great Easter books to include in your kids’ basket this year.

Easter Books to Include in Your Kids’ Basket This Year

Some of these are board books, there’s even a coloring book in there, but all of these are fun Easter books for your kiddos to receive as part of their Easter basket goodie stash this year.

The Great Easter Race!: A Springtime Sesame Street Story with Elmo, Cookie Monster, Big Bird and Friends! (Easter Basket Stuffers for Toddlers and Kids) (Sesame Street Scribbles)

Easter Coloring Book For Kids Ages 2-5: A Collection of Fun and Easy Happy Easter Eggs Coloring Pages for Kids | Makes a perfect gift for Easter

How to Catch the Easter Bunny

Hop-About: The Adventures of Benny the Bunny and Mr. Rabbit

Even if you decide to not include them into each of your kids’ baskets, why not order one or two to read to them as Easter approaches? I know that my kids always loved reading when we read books that related to the closest holiday. If your kiddos are excited for Easter, reading them a cute, fun Easter book is a way to celebrate that excitement.

5 Spring Skiing Safety Tips you Won’t Want to Forget

Can you guys believe it’s March?  If you live in an area like me, then Spring can bring so many different weather patterns. We get nice sunny days as well as snowy cold days. March is one of my favorite times to ski. Why? Because the days are longer which means you can get more sun and the temperatures are usually more pleasant. If you’re like me and enjoy some spring skiing, be sure to check these safety tips as you hit the slopes.

Spring Skiing Safety Tips

  • Lather on the sun screen, especially your face, including your nose, cheeks and ears. With the sun out more, you will most likely get a sun burn. This is something people forget, but it’s SO important. Also, be sure to bring lip balm! This is seriously a lifesaver.
  • Watch weather conditions before you head to the mountains. Be aware of avalanche warnings and read all new signs and warnings at your resort. With changing conditions, trails may need to be maintained or even closed.
  • Ski in layers. During the spring the days can start super chilly, get really warm, then end super chilly again. Be ready for all conditions with many layers that you can shed or add on throughout the day.
  • Be sure to stay hydrated throughout the day. If it’s warmer out, you’re body is getting warmer which needs to be hydrated frequently. Bring a water bottle with you on your runs and drink as you’re heading up the hill.
  • Take short breaks. This is important especially if you have little kids with you. Take short breaks throughout the day and get some rest, shade, re-apply the sunscreen and drink water.

The Best Water Bottles to Keep You Hydrated

Do you struggle to stay hydrated? Water is such an important part of our lives and our health. You need to drink as much water as you can, but sometimes that is hard to do. Not everyone loves the taste of water and let’s face it, a plastic water bottle doesn’t exactly do wonders for keeping our water refreshing.

The right water bottle can make all the difference in your ability and willingness to stay hydrated. This in turn can make the difference in your health. I’m a big water drinker myself, I am never without a water bottle near me, so I figured I could help out and share a list of the best water bottles to keep you hydrated based on my experience with them.

The Best Water Bottles to Keep You Hydrated

I have a lot of water bottles in my home (seriously…I have an entire cabinet shelf dedicated to just water bottles). Every bottle that I am sharing here I have tried before, so I’m sharing my thoughts on them with you.

Hydroflask – I am a big fan of Hydroflask. I love that it keeps my water cold for hours and hours and hours. I have found though that water stays cold longer when you use the standard twist lid as opposed to the straw lid.

IronFlask – An off brand version of the hydroflask, this one actually works quite well. Truth be told…I really like the color options too!

Nalgene Water Bottle – I love the wide mouth top, and the easy to carry design. I am a bigger fan of the hydroflask type water bottles because I need cold water in my life, but this one is my favorite for  the times that I know that I am going to be drinking the water quickly.

Gatorade Water Bottle – Funny story, my teenage son has multiple Hydroflasks of his own and the use of any of our other high dollar water bottles. He will choose this simple, cheap gatorade bottle every single time. I don’t know what it is, but the kids love this one.

Do you have a favorite water bottle?
