Default Whats for dinner 2/15/2013

In an attempt to bring back a thread I use to love and check on from time to time...what are you having for dinner?

We are having a new dish I found in one of my new cookbooks. Its called Orange Pork and its served with rice and we'll serve it with a simple side salad.

The pork is done in the slow cooker....its boneless country style pork ribs, browned on all sides a bit. You put them in the slow cooker and then take a jar of orange marmalade, at least 7 oz jar of hoisin (I found mine at Harmons), 3 minced garlic cloves and a tsp of sesame oil. I like Sesame oil so I added 2 tsps (and it finished off my bottle). Whisk together well and pour over the ribs in the slow cooker. Set on low for 8 to 10 hours, high for 4 to 6 hours and serve with rice (we're doing basic white rice....but I did think brown rice or even a long rice/wild rice blend would be awesome)

Our side salad is simply a bagged salad mix with croutons and dressing. Nothing fancy. Will let you know how it turns out. BTW....if I do these threads you will find I'm a big user of slow cookers. ATM I have 2 in my house--one is mine nad one is my DIL's and there have been a couple days where I'm making a meal for today and making something that goes in dinner tomorrow (like when I do tamales). Its made me a firm believer that families should contemplate having 2. You may not use them ALL the time, but for me--its nice to know for things like tamales or big family dinners or even keeping a large amount warm I have a 2nd one.

Sounds like you both will have awesome meals!

DD offered to make tomato soup. Frankly, after spending hours in the kitchen yesterday, I am happy to let her. We will have leftover breadsticks, add some salad, and have leftover rocky road bars.
