By now we all know that compact flourescent light bulbs are huge energy savers. Right?
Really! Switching just one incandescent light bulb for a CFL will save approximately $35 in energy costs over the projected 10 year life of the bulb.
Lighting accounts for 20% of the average home’s electric bill. And CFL’s use 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs use.
And they are available in almost every style now. You don’t have to worry about having unattractive swirly bulbs in your pretty light fixtures. Now you can have CFL vanity lights. There are CFL candelabra style bulbs for your chandeliers and ceiling fans. And there are Flood light style CFL’s for your recessed lighting fixtures. And many more styles as well!
If you don’t like the slight delay that can come when you flip on a CFL bulb, they also make "instant on" CFL bulbs for a slightly higher price. But really, in my opinion, it’s nice to have the light come on a little gently. Like at 5 am.
With over 100 light bulbs in our house, it was an easy decision and a worthwhile investment to replace them all with CFLs.
