Last week I talked about wrapping gifts and my love of wrapping paper and wrapping accessories. Yesterday I started talking about making and giving homemade gift tags. I love to make homemade gift tags, it is a ton of fun! I mentioned that when it comes to making homemade gift tags, almost anything goes. There are so many options. Homemade gift tags can be anything from paper to wood to cookies! Remember to avoid anything too fragile, like glass, or anything that could be dangerous.
Here are some more great ideas for homemade gift tags. Add these ideas to the ideas from yesterday’s blog: scrapbook paper, cardstock, cardboard, online printables, photos, artwork, greeting cards. (You can find that blog HERE.) You can use these ideas alone or combine them and make some really fun homemade gift tags. Get creative and have fun.
Fabric
Fabric is so much fun to use on homemade gift tags. Fabric adds color and texture. You can layer it and make fun embellishments on your homemade gift tags.
Washi tape
Washi tape has taken the craft world by storm. People are using it everywhere and on everything. It is inexpensive and comes in many colors and patterns. Why not use it on homemade gift tags?
Felt
Using felt on homemade gift tags is a lot like using fabric but with some additional perks. The thickness of felt makes it possible to create gift tags out of felt alone. Such a fun idea!
Buttons
Buttons are so cute and colorful. Add them to a gift tag made with any of the other materials. They look great on homemade gift tags.
Ribbon
Ribbon is another great embellishment to use on homemade gift tags. Trim a fun gift tag with ribbon or attach the homemade gift tag to the present with a fun ribbon. Fun and colorful ribbon can dress up a very plain tag and make it look special.
Salt dough
I just recently saw this idea and loved it! Salt dough formed into fun shapes makes great and unusual homemade gift tags. You can write on it with a Sharpie marker or attach a small paper tag for the to/from names.
Cookies
The idea of using cookies is just like the salt dough idea above. Such a fun way to make homemade gift tags.
Wooden or metal shapes
You can find inexpensive small wooden or metal shapes in craft stores. Paint them, stain them or leave them plain. Wooden or metal shapes make really cute homemade gift tags.
Small toys
Small toys make super cute gift tags when giving presents to kids. It is fun to have them guess what is inside the present from a gift tag hint.
Candy
Using candy for homemade gift tags is especially fun at Christmas time. You can add a small paper tag or write on the wrapper. Super cute idea!
Plastic ornaments
Small plastic ornaments make really cute gift tags on Christmas presents. Write on the ornament with a Sharpie and pair it with a cute bow – so much fun!
