Stop! Don’t throw out those owner’s manuals!
I’ve always been pretty good about keeping the owner’s manuals for the things we buy.
A little too good, to be honest. Until last week I had the owner’s manuals for my oldest daughter’s baby toys. She’ll be 25 in December.
I recently took some time to organize them so they’d be easier to find when we need them.
I threw out the ones that went to things we no longer own. And I organized the rest in a file box.
I was specific about some things and general about others.
For example, “toys” are in one file and “small kitchen appliances” are in another. The “water softener” has it’s own. And the files leave plenty of room for small extra parts that might come with things. Like the nuts and bolts necessary to turn my son’s crib into a full size bed one day.
But this post isn’t just about being organized. It’s about saving money too.
Let me explain.
The plastic lid thingy on my food processor broke recently.
I could buy a new food processor for about $40.
Or I could spend a lot of time on the internet trying to figure out the proper name for the plastic lid thingy and then searching for the part number and then search for a place to buy the part.

<p>We LOVE this Hormel pepperoni at our house – it is SO good! And I love that it has a shelf-life of about 6 months, non-refrigerated. So I can stock up and keep pepperoni on hand for homemade pizzas or after-school snacks.</p>
<p>I almost had a heart attack when I looked up at the checkout screen and saw the $87.28 total…but then I realized I hadn’t given them my Fresh Values card yet. Once that was scanned in, the total dropped significantly (thank goodness) and I saved $45.03 (59 percent) without using a single coupon.</p>

<p>I had these four baskets in my credenza that I wanted lined. I looked at several stores and wasn’t finding what I was looking for. The odds were against me: not only did I need to find baskets with a cute liner that matched my decor, but also baskest that <span style="font-style: italic;">fit</span> in the credenza.</p>
<p>It wasn’t working. And I was getting frustrated.</p>
<p>So I wondered how difficult it might be to make my own basket liners. I did a Google search and found a <span style="font-style: italic;">SUPER easy</span> tutorial, no pattern needed! I made the liners today. Didn’t they turn out great?</p>

I paid $4.99 for each basket<span style="font-size:85%;"> (I got those awhile ago somewhere)</span> and $10 for all the fabric, which was 3.5 yards. So it ended up costing me $7.49 for each basket. Not bad when they are custom made!</p>
