Smith’s Launches Cash Back Rewards Card for Utah Shoppers

Rewards Points Turn to Cash and Pay Customers to Shop at Smith’s

Smith’s Food & Drug has created yet another way for customers to enjoy saving money while they shop by using Smith’s “second generation” loyalty card, the new fresh values rewards card.

When using the new rewards card customers earn one point for each dollar spent in the store *. Customers receive $5 for earning 500 points and $1 for each additional 100 points accumulated (up to $250 per quarter). Rewards card certificates spend like cash in Smith’s stores and will be mailed to customers in November, then again in February, May, and August.

Although both cards may be used, customers are encouraged to replace their Fresh Values card with the “new generation” fresh values rewards card to receive even greater benefits through rewards points. Both cards offer yellow tag savings, special coupon mailings, fuel discounts and lost key return. But in addition, the rewards card users will receive the quarterly discount certificates for redemption off their entire shopping order. Rewards card points will also be issued for bag reuse, for filling a qualifying prescription, and for future bonus opportunities.

Customers will be asked by greeters and Smith’s checkers to upgrade their current Fresh Values card to the rewards card beginning September 9th and will receive bonus sign-up points through September 26.

* The Smith’s rewards card will accumulate points in every department except fuel, prescriptions, alcohol, tobacco, products associated with services or fees and any products prohibited by law.

Help out your local schools! Take 5 minutes and enroll in Smith’s, Fry’s, or Ralph’s Earn & Learn program!

Every year Smith’s, Fry’s, and Ralph’s stores give thousands of dollars to local schools. All you have to do is take 5 minutes to enroll in the free program, and a percentage of every dollar you spend at your local Smith’s, Fry’s, or Ralph’s store will earn cash for your participating neighborhood schools. With education funding being cut, this is especially important right now!

It’s really very simple. Select your store from the list below:

Smith’s
Fry’s
Ralph’s

Scroll to the bottom of the page. Under the services column, click on “School Programs.” Click on this image, or where it says “Learn More.”

(The Smith’s, Fry’s, and Ralph’s programs vary somewhat, but these instructions should help.)
Click on “Enroll.” If you are already registered with the site, log in. If not, click on “Sign up today!” and register. You’ll be emailed a link to click on to activate your account. Once you have an account, and are logged in, enter your Fresh Values, Fry’s, or Ralph’s card number in the space provided:

Click on “Save changes.” On the next page, you’ll be prompted to select the organization that will receive a percentage of your purchases. Locate your child’s school, and click on “save changes.” If your child’s school isn’t participating, talk with a member of your PTA about getting them enrolled, or select another nearby school. If you don’t have a child in school, you can select any school near you.

It’s as easy as that! Smith’s/Fry’s/Ralph’s will track purchases made with your store Card, and checks will be sent directly to your child’s school.

Spread the word about this easy fundraising opportunity for our children’s schools. Get your friends and relatives to sign up. Click on the Share/Save button below this post – you can easily post this on your Facebook page, Tweet it, email it, blog it, and more!

September is National Preparedness Month!

Are you ready?

Following the tragic events of September 11, 2001 and the recurring reminders of the powerful force of natural phenomenon, we become reminded of our vulnerabilities, more appreciative of our freedoms, and more understanding that we have a personal responsibility for the safety of our families, our neighbors and our nation.

But we also know that we can take action now to help protect our families, help reduce the impact an emergency has on our lives, and help deal with the chaos if an incident does occur. To take the first step towards preparedness, you can download English and Spanish preparedness guides or order them for free by calling the FEMA Distribution Center on 1-800-480-2520. And it’s important to check with your local Citizen Corps Council or Office of Emergency Management to learn about local hazards and local emergency plans.

The FEMA publication Are You Ready? A Guide For Citizen Preparedness, is a 200-page comprehensive guide that walks the reader through a step-by-step approach to getting informed about local emergency plans, how to identify hazards that effect their local area, and how to develop and maintain an emergency communications plan and disaster supplies kit. Other topics covered include evacuation, emergency public shelters, animals in disaster, and information specific to people with disabilities. Are You Ready? also provides in-depth information on specific hazards including what to do before, during, and after each hazard type.

In addition, the Department of Homeland Security has developed a website, www.ready.gov, to help you prepare for the potential threats we now face as we enter this new era of potential warfare and terrorism here at home.

We also encourage you to get involved in helping others be safer — when you help your neighbor, you help your nation. Share what you learn with others — and participate in Citizen Corps in your area. If you don’t have a Citizen Corps Council in your area, contact your state Citizen Corps representative and work with your local officials to get one started.

Here are some other things you can do right now to be safer!

* Check and change the batteries in your smoke alarms and replace all alarms that are more than 10 years old.
* Make sure you know where your local fire department, police station, and hospital are and post a list of emergency phone numbers posted near all the telephones in your home.
* Organize and practice a family fire drill — make sure your children know what your smoke detector sounds like and what to do if it goes off when they are sleeping.
* Locate the utility mains for your home and be sure you know how to turn them off manually: gas, electricity, and water.
* Create an emergency plan for your household, including your pets. Decide where your family will meet if a disaster does happen: 1) right outside your home in case of a sudden emergency, like a fire and 2) outside your neighborhood in case you can’t return home — ask an out of town friend to be your “family contact” to relay messages.
* Prepare a 3-day disaster supply kit, complete with flashlights, batteries, blankets, and an emergency supply of water and food (and pet food!).
* Plan to hold a Neighborhood Watch meeting — your local Sheriffs’ office or police station can help you get started or visit www.usaonwatch.org for more information.
* Check the expiration dates of all over-the-counter medications — discard all that are expired and replace any that are routinely needed.
* Make sure all cleaning products and dangerous objects are out of children’s reach.
* Plan to sign up for a first aid training course. Call your local American Red Cross chapter, the National Safety Council or American Safety & Health Institute to ask about courses in your area (www.redcross.org, www.nsc.org or www.ashinstitute.org).
* Visit with your neighbors and discuss how you would handle a disaster in your area. Talk to neighbors with special needs and help them become safer too!
