I am in the process of moving. I HATE to move, but I am really excited about our new home so it does ease the pain a little. I have moved many times in my life (average of about once every 2 years) and am a bit of a pro, though. SO, I thought I’d share a couple of my “secrets” with you.
.
Today’s secret is about moving boxes. Here are a few sources for FREE moving boxes that I have used successfully.
.
SMALL BOXES (especially good for heavy or fragile items like books/dishes): Liquor Store boxes; McDonalds French Fry boxes; Boxes from LDS Cannery (these can be found already broken down in their dumpsters)
.
MEDIUM BOXES (great for almost everything – especially if not too heavy or bulky): Walmart Cereal Boxes (these can be picked up at Walmart @ around midnight every night in the cereal aisle); Dumpster Diving at local thrift stores (Deseret Industries in Utah) – take a child with you for this fun experience!; Craigslist.com & FreeCycle.org – You will often find ads for FREE moving boxes from these websites, they just want you to come haul them away (I’ve had more luck with Craigslist than FreeCycle)
.
LARGE BOXES (good for light-weight, bulky items such as clothing & bedding): To be honest, I haven’t found any consistently good places for free large boxes. Recently I found a local company that gets large boxes every couple of weeks. They have been saving boxes for me. I have also found a few dumpster diving in the industrial area of town. This is one size that I purchase. I have found Home Depot to be the least expensive. I like their extra large boxes for $1.97/ea (item # 1001015). If you have any suggestions on how to get these larger boxes for free, let me know!
